Subject Access Requests (seeking personal data controlled by the Courts Service)

Under the Data Protection Acts, it is open to any person, including employees, to request a copy of any or all personal data held by the Courts Service in relation to them. 

Information in relation to accessing personal data controlled by the Courts is available here.  For the avoidance of doubt, the Courts Service is not the data controller in relation to court records held by the court.

In order to process a subject access request  proof of identity and address are required when making a request. For example, a copy of your passport or utility bill. It is generally best that the request is as focused as possible in order for the Courts Service to search for the most relevant information.

If you are applying on behalf of another person, then a copy of signed authority from the individual will also be required.

Once the request has been validated, it shall be sent to the relevant business unit to process.  

The Courts Service is obliged to reply within a specified period of time (1 calendar month) to all requests received. Subject Access Requests can be made in writing to the address below:
