What to expect during the programme

The Drug Treatment Court is designed to support you in becoming drug-free and rebuilding your life. The programme has three stages and includes regular check-ins with the court and support team.

You’ll need to:

  • Attend court regularly (especially at the start)
  • Work with your case manager and probation officer
  • Stick to a Personal Progression Plan
  • Stay drug-free (apart from prescribed medication)
  • Take part in treatment and education

There are rewards if you're doing well and sanctions if you're not keeping to the programme.

Programme phases

You’ll move through three phases based on your progress:

Bronze phase

  • Attend court weekly
  • Take part in drug treatment
  • Provide drug screens
  • Meet with your probation officer and case manager

Silver phase

  • Attend court less often (if approved)
  • Continue drug treatment
  • Start or continue education or training
  • Build more independence

Gold phase

  • Prepare to finish the programme
  • Continue all supports
  • Show stable recovery and positive behaviour

You’ll follow your Personal Progression Plan, which sets out what you need to do at each stage.

Rewards and sanctions

You earn points for positive actions — such as staying drug-free and attending court or treatment.

You can lose points for:

  • Missing court or treatment
  • Not sticking to your plan
  • Using drugs without medical approval

If you break the rules, you may:

  • Lose points
  • Be asked to repeat a phase
  • Be removed from the programme

If you’re sick or can’t attend court, contact your case manager. You might need a doctor’s note.
