After jury service
Thank you for serving on a jury. Your time and contribution helped ensure justice was fair, public and independent.
This page explains what happens next, where to get help, and how to give feedback.
Get proof of attendance
You can use a certificate of attendance to show your employer that you served on a jury.
- If you replied to your jury summons online, download your certificate at jury.courts.ie
- If not, contact your local court office to ask for one: Find a court office
Your employer must give you time off for jury service. They may ask to see your certificate.
Support after jury service
Some trials can be distressing. It’s normal to feel unsettled or emotional afterwards — support is available if you need it.
You can talk to your GP or contact one of these free, confidential services:
- HSE Mental Health Services – support options and advice
- Samaritans – call 116 123 (free, 24/7)
- Mental Health Ireland
- Aware – call 1800 80 48 48 (support for depression and anxiety)
If you're still feeling affected after the trial, it's okay to ask for help.
Future jury exemption
Some judges may excuse you from jury service for a certain period after your case.
If you’ve been excused, this will be shown on your certificate of attendance. You can check at jury.courts.ie.
Other things to check
Some home insurance policies may cover loss of earnings during jury service. To find out:
- Contact your insurance provider
- Ask if your policy includes a “jury service benefit” or similar
The Courts Service cannot give advice about private insurance policies.
