Alcohol licences and allowed hours

On-licences

Alcohol can only be sold on a licensed premises during set hours. For pubs serving alcohol on the premises, these hours are:

  • Monday to Thursday from 10:30am to 11:30pm
  • Friday and Saturday from 10:30am to 12:30am
  • Sunday from 12:30pm to 11:00pm

‘Drinking-up’ time of 30 minutes is permitted at the end of official closing time.

Off-licences

For off-licences including supermarkets, alcohol can be sold at these hours:

  • Monday to Saturday from 10:30am to 10:00pm
  • Sunday and St Patrick’s Day from 12:30pm to 10:00pm

Public holidays

There are nine public holidays in the year:

New Year's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter Monday, the first Monday in May, the first Monday in June, the first Monday in August, the first Monday in October, Christmas day and Stephen's day.

Trading hours on:

  • St. Patrick's day are between 12:30pm and 12:30am the following day.
  • The eve of any public holiday (except Christmas Eve) which falls on a Sunday are between 12:30pm and 12:30am the following day.
  • The eve of any public holiday (except Christmas Eve) which falls on a weekday are between 10:30am and 12:30am the following day.
  • Christmas Eve are 10:30am and 11:30pm (even if it falls on a Sunday). If December 23 falls on a Sunday, same hours apply.
  • Alcohol is not allowed to be served on Christmas day (unless in the case of a club authorisation).
