The Courts Service has launched a fully updated edition of Let's look at the law, its long-running educational programme designed to help young people understand the law, the courts and their role in a democratic society.
For many years, Let's look at the law has introduced students to key legal and civic concepts through practical classroom activities and discussion. The new edition builds on that foundation with refreshed content, new video resources, updated legal information and enhanced mock trial materials designed for today's classrooms.
The programme has been developed to support teachers and educators in delivering engaging lessons on topics such as:
- the people who work in our courts
- the purpose and sources of law
- how laws are made in Ireland
- the Irish and European court systems
- equality and discrimination
- constitutional rights
- the operation of a criminal trial
A key feature of the programme is its focus on active learning. Students are encouraged to explore legal issues through discussion, problem-solving exercises, case studies and quizzes. They can also take part in a mock trial, giving them an opportunity to experience the roles of judges, barristers, witnesses, jurors and court staff while developing skills in communication, critical thinking and teamwork
