Manage Your Account

Find answers to common questions about registering and managing your account, joining or administering a legal firm, managing users, updating your account details, and configuring payment settings.

Does each solicitor within a firm register using their own email address or is there just one account registered for the firm?

Each solicitor should register using their own individual account and work email address.

The first person to register a firm must complete the firm's registration by:

  • Completing a firm registration application.
  • Uploading the completed and signed application form.
  • Uploading a copy of the current practising certificate of the managing partner, compliance partner or principal solicitor who signed the form.
  • Optionally registering a bank account for portal payments.

The first registered user is automatically assigned the Firm Administrator role. Firm Administrators can approve registration requests from colleagues and assign administrator permissions to other registered users.

How long does it take for the email verification code to arrive when you're registering for the first time?

You should receive your verification email within 1–2 minutes of requesting it.

If you do not receive the email, select Send new code. If the problem persists, please contact portal@courts.ie.

How long does it take for a firm's registration in the portal to be approved?

Firm registrations are generally approved within 1–2 business days.

If your firm registers for EFT payments, the signed physical direct debit form must first be received. Once received, processing normally takes a further 1–2 business days.

I have already registered my firm. How do other solicitors or legal executives in the firm join the portal?

Each person should register using their own work email address and their own name.

During registration, they should select the firm they wish to join. An existing Firm Administrator will receive a notification and must approve the request.

Firm Administrators can approve new users by selecting:

My Account > Manage Account > Accept Users

Can secretaries register and use the portal?

Yes. Anyone within your firm, including secretaries and other support staff, can register and use the Courts Portal.

How do you make an existing registered user in the portal admin for a firm?

Every firm has at least one Firm Administrator. The first person to register the firm is automatically assigned this role.

A Firm Administrator can assign administrator permissions to another registered user by navigating to:

Manage Account > Manage Users

Select the user from the list and update their role to Firm Administrator.

Can you change the name you registered with after registration, for example if you used your firm's name instead of your individual name?

Yes. You can update your registered name by navigating to:

My Account > Manage Account > Personal Details

Can you set up more than one bank account for payments in the portal?

Yes. There is no limit to the number of bank accounts you can register for payments within the portal.

Does the EFT payment for the fees automatically come out of the firm's client account when the application is submitted or does it require manual processing?

Payments made using EFT are automatically debited from the nominated bank account within 3–5 working days after the application is submitted.
